Collecting Comic Art: An interview with Kwan Tak (Spain)

29. Dec / 2025

In this third chapter, we sit down with Kwan Tak in an interview that is pretty special to us, as he is one of The Green Room’s very first clients.

Kwan has been by our side since the beginning and, over time, has truly become a friend. We had the chance to meet him at COMICCAN, the festival held in the Balearic Islands, and we remember that first meeting with great affection.

We hope you enjoy this interview as much as we enjoyed spending some time chatting with Kwan. :^)

How did you get into art collecting?

The internet age began, and I started looking for an original by John Byrne, then by Carlos Pacheco… and it’s been ongoing ever since.

What’s the first piece you bought?

A Superman piece by John Byrne.

What’s your favorite piece of comic art you own?

I don’t have one in particular; there are several I consider favorites, although I couldn’t say which. Each one has its story, artists, memories…

What leads you to select some pieces and not others?

That it’s by a preferred author, visually impactful, has had some impact on the character’s history, or that the price-to-artist relationship is acceptable.

What’s your favorite piece from our gallery? Tell us what makes it so special for you!

New Mutants #22 alternative cover by David López.

It’s a striking cover, full of drama and tension. David does fantastic work, direct and with washes that don’t even need color. The New Mutants marked an era, and the Shadow King, their arch-nemesis, is a terrifying character you don’t forget. That era left a mark on me.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to start collecting art?

Don’t start… 😜 Just kidding…

Get informed by people who know about collecting, be patient in your search, start with local authors, and try to contact the author directly when they sale directly or through their representative or gallery (like The Green Room, for example).
